How the Incident Happened
A tragic accident claimed the life of an employee of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) in the remote Mayar Valley of Lahaul-Spiti district. The deceased has been identified as Gyan Singh, a conductor posted at the Keylong Depot.
According to officials, the HRTC bus had returned after road damage prevented it from continuing towards Khanjar. During the stop near Dhondal Nallah, Gyan Singh stepped out to wash his hands and face.
Moments later, a large boulder suddenly rolled down from the hillside and struck him, causing fatal injuries. Despite immediate efforts, he died at the scene.
"This heartbreaking incident once again highlights the risks faced by transport workers travelling through the fragile Himalayan road network, particularly during the monsoon season."
