agra mausoleum
Taj Mahal, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India.

The Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum in Agra, U.P. India. It is declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. It is one of the most visited tourist places in India. Thousands of people not only from India but from all over the world come to visit Taj every year.

HISTORY: The Taj Mahal is named after Mumtaz Mahal, one of the queens of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. She died while giving birth to a baby, Shah Jahan loved her very much so he decided to build Taj in her memory. It took 21 years to complete it. Thousands of workers, elephants, and others worked to build it. The chief architect of the Taj Mahal was Ustad Ahmad Lahori.

ENTRY GATES: There are three entry gates to Taj :
  1. Eastern Gate.
  2. Western Gate.
  3. Southern Gate.
MY VISIT TO TAJ MAHAL: We entered from Western Gate. People with luggage were putting their luggage in the luggage store. Only phone camera wallets or small bags are allowed. I didn't have anything more than basic things so I to the ticket counter. There were queues of people. After buying a ticket, one has to go through a security check. After that, there is the main gate from where one can see the Taj Mahal. It was mesmerizing. There was a huge crowd and everyone was busy taking pictures. If one wants to take pictures of the complete structure with minaret I suggest taking them only from here(near the main gate). Everyone thinks now he is there and can go to the platform, but here the main struggle begins. There are many queues of people in a zig-zag pattern and it takes 1 to 2 hours in the winter season time to enter the Taj Mahal. There is the tomb of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal inside the Taj Mahal lying beside each other. Outside the tomb, there are four minarets on each corner of the platform. On the walls, there are flowers carved, Pietra dura jali, Persian poems, etc. There is a staircase to get up and down to go inside the Taj Mahal since it is on the first floor I can say. It was a great experience to visit Taj. One more thing you have to make sure of before joining the queue to enter into Taj is to buy shoe covers as soon as possible after getting the Taj Mahal ticket else you have to put your shoes off. We bought a pair of shoe covers for Rs. 10/pair. After getting out of the main gate we hired a Ghoda Gadi(Horse cart) to get back to the western gate and then a cab for the Hotel. It was an amazing experience to visit the Taj Mahal and we really enjoyed it.
TAJ MAHAL OF AGRA IS UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE.

SOME TIPS:
1. The best time to visit is either morning or evening. In the morning time, there is less of a crowd.
2. Buy a shoe cover before entering the main gate.
3. Want to take perfect pictures? take it from the main gate. Because as you go near it, you can not take the whole structure/ complete Taj Mahal in a photo/picture even if you have a wide-angle lens camera.
4. Bring sunglasses with you because in sunlight white marble will shine and in such a situation, sunglasses will protect the eyes.
5. Bring ID proof to get the ticket.
6. Tripod stands and drone cameras are not allowed.
7. Can also visit places near the Taj Mahal on the same day, such as Agra Fort or Red Fort, and Itmat ud dullah's tomb.
8. To take the perfect picture of the Yamuna River go to Mehtab Bagh(situated on the opposite side of the river bank). The Yamuna is also one of the rivers flowing in India.
9. Wear colorful clothes for perfect photographs because a white marble background, it will be a great contrast.
10. No tour guide is needed.
11. Rs. 5 and Rs. 50 concessions on booking tickets online for Domestic and Foreign tourists respectively.
